Pip is configured with locations that require TLS/SSL, however the ssl module in Python is not available. It wasn't until I had already gone through this that I realized SSL was missing, when I went to install something with pip. $ sudo update-alternatives -config python3 $ sudo update-alternatives -install /usr/bin/python3 python3 /usr/bin/python3.7 2 Make Python 3.7 the default: $ sudo update-alternatives -install /usr/bin/python3 python3 /usr/bin/python3.4 1 $ sudo apt-get install libssl-dev opensslÄownload and extract Python 3.7: $ cd /usr/src $ sudo apt-get install zlib1g-dev libsqlite3-dev tk-dev $ sudo apt-get install libreadline-gplv2-dev libncursesw5-dev libgdbm-dev libc6-dev libbz2-dev $ sudo apt-get install build-essential checkinstall python-dev python-setuptools python-pip python-smbus These are the steps I took to install the new Python: I have compiled and installed Python 3.7 on my Raspberry Pi, but SSL is not working.
